Italian universities offer one of the most affordable higher education systems in Western Europe. State institutions charge between €900 and €4,000 per year depending on family income; private ones charge from €6,000 to €20,000 and above. At the University of Trento, the maximum annual fee for students from non-EU countries is €6,500; at the University of Padua, the fixed rate for non-EU citizens is €2,750–2,950. More than 500 programmes are taught entirely in English, mainly at master's level and in technical fields. The strengths of the Italian system are concentrated in architecture, design, fashion, engineering, and the humanities. |
Admission requires a secondary school certificate or diploma with a transcript, a language certificate — for Italian-taught programmes, a B2 level of Italian is usually required; for English-taught ones, IELTS 6.0–6.5 — and proof of financial capacity. Students can work during their studies and, after graduation, stay in the country for up to 12 months to look for work.
