Secondary Education in Italy

Italian boarding schools for international students are mostly private international schools following IB, IGCSE, or the American system. St. Stephen's School in Rome accepts students aged 14–19 (grades 9–12), offering a co-educational environment and on-campus accommodation; a year of boarding here costs €55,537, while day tuition is €33,652. The International School of Milan accepts children from preschool through grade 13: senior school tuition reaches €25,960 per year, and boarding for international students costs €19,000–25,000. Institut International Saint Dominique in Rome offers a more affordable option — from €7,600 to €10,370 per year. Language requirements depend on the programme: for the IB, a B1–B2 level of English is sufficient; for the national track, a B1 level of Italian or above is required, although schools provide intensive language support in the first year.

Tuition costs vary depending on the city, programme, and type of accommodation. In Milan, Rome, and other major cities, prices are higher than in provincial schools. The fee usually includes tuition, accommodation, meals, and extracurricular activities. Admission typically requires transcripts for two years, recommendations, and proof of language level.
