Secondary Education in Spain

Spanish boarding schools for international students fall into two types: international schools teaching in English and bilingual institutions following the national curriculum. The International Baccalaureate remains the most common track for those planning to apply to universities outside Spain, while the Spanish bachillerato provides access to local universities through the Selectividad exam. The minimum age for boarding is 11–14, and accommodation is provided on campus or with host families. Language requirements depend on the programme: for the IB, a B1–B2 level of English is sufficient; for the national track, Spanish at B1 or above is required, although schools offer intensive language support in the first year.

Tuition costs vary depending on the city, programme, and type of accommodation. Yago School in Seville charges annual boarding fees ranging from €37,200 in secondary school to €40,300 for the Diploma Programme; this amount includes tuition, accommodation, meals, and three cultural trips around Spain. Hamelin-Laie International School in Barcelona charges €49,272 per year for boarding (students aged 14–18), while Sotogrande International School in Cádiz offers accommodation for non-EU students ranging from €21,700 to €25,605, with guardianship services included.
