Universities in France

France remains one of the most affordable destinations for higher education, especially in the public sector. For EU citizens, the university registration fee is €178 per year for a bachelor's and €255 for a master's; for students from third countries, higher rates apply — €2,902 and €3,950 respectively. Doctoral studies cost the same for all categories — €398 per year. More than 1,600 programmes are taught in English, mainly at master's level and in grandes écoles such as HEC Paris, ESSEC, and INSEAD, where tuition is higher, but the degree opens doors to the international job market.

French universities are strong in mathematics, engineering, business, and the humanities, and their research infrastructure is linked to the national centres CNRS and INSERM. For admission, international applicants need a secondary school certificate or bachelor's degree with a transcript, a language certificate — DELF B2 or DALF for French-taught programmes, IELTS or TOEFL for English-taught ones — and proof of financial capacity of at least €877.50 per month. After graduation, a one-year job-search visa is available.
