Universities in the Netherlands

Dutch universities offer international students more than 2,000 English-taught programmes, making the country one of the most accessible destinations in Europe for those who do not speak the local language. Tuition for EU citizens is €2,694 per year — a fixed government rate; for students from non-EU countries, fees are higher and depend on the university and programme. At Leiden University, a master's programme for non-EU students costs from €22,300 to €22,500; at Wageningen University, a bachelor's programme costs €18,300; and Radboud University sets rates from €13,793 to €19,714 for master's programmes. Despite the range, these amounts are lower than in the UK or US, with comparable quality of research work.

The strengths of the Dutch system are problem-based learning, close ties with industry, and the opportunity to stay in the country for a year after graduation to look for work. Admission requires a secondary school certificate or diploma with a transcript, a language certificate — IELTS from 6.5 or TOEFL from 90 for English-taught programmes — and a motivation letter.
